EastEnders is the multi award winning soap broadcast four times a week on BBC ONE. It currently ranks as one of the most watched TV dramas in the UK tackling many controversial and taboo issues previously unseen on television in the UK. Through great writing and attention to detail the show manages to successfully balance gritty realism with high drama and entertainment to keep its millions of dedicated viewers coming back for more, on-screen and on-line, every week.
This role is being offered as a training position for individuals looking to enter the industry as part of a props team and will offer the opportunity for on the job training/learning in the activities of the EastEnders Propstore working closely with the Propstore Manager, Props and Setting Manager, Store Prophands, Staff Chargehand and Scenery and setting crews.. The successful applicant will shadow each of the above to give insight into how each role operates within the EastEnders Design Department.
Role Responsibility
Main responsibilities of this role include working flexibly with both the Propstore Manager and Props and Setting Manager regarding the provision of both Props, General Housekeeping and setting of scenery across the site as a whole to help ensure the smooth running of the production.
Your role will involve working with the Propstore Manager to effectively maintain the propstore systems including the use of machinery, tow trucks and forklif and ensuring the Studio and Lot sets are well maintained and kept clean and tidy. You will also work with Productions Designers, Buyers, Art Directors and Construction Manager to meet design requirements for individual blocks of filming.
The Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of manual handling and have a history of working in an environment that requires heavy lifting on a regular basis.
A willingness to learn and undergo basic BBC training in skills such as Teddy Truck Driving, Fork Lift, MEWPS (mobile elevating work platforms) Safe Working at Height, Food Hygiene level 2 and Manual Handling and will also have an interest in drama, specifically EastEnders.
Package Description
Television Drama production can involve long and unpredictable work patterns and pressure to meet tight deadlines. The post holder’s working hours during the initial 6 months will start at 0700-1700; thereafter a flexible approach to working hours will be required in line with normal filming schedule hours 0700 – 1900
