Database Administrator - Thunderhead - Elstree

The Database Administrator is a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the Thunderhead Platform and is responsible for making sure that the platform delivers successfully in the enterprise environment. This means that performance, reliability and scalability need to be tested on many platforms.

You’ll be maintaining our Database and windows servers, ensuring our thriving business is running in optimum condition.

You’d be a great fit for the role if you know how to diagnose database performance problems and have been the go to person for DBA issues before.

What we’re looking for:
You might be a great fit for the team if you’re a passionate technologist, an analytical thinker, tenacious, forward thinking and problem solver with a strong background in database administration. To do a great job in this position, experience can include:

On-call troubleshooting experience with at least one production SQL Server for a year. You don’t have to be the only DBA or have DBA in your job description, but you should have been the one person that the company would call if the SQL Server service stopped working.

Finding DMV queries to answer questions about server-level performance. Experience with TDE and SQL server always on. Any experience working with SQL Azure or running Database in the public cloud is a bonus.

Experience with other BigData/NoSQL solutions (e.g. Key-Value, Document and In-Memory databases).


The responsibilities of the role include:
Ensuring that all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).

Testing backups to ensure we can meet the organization’s Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).

Troubleshooting SQL Server service outages as they occur, including some after-hours and weekend coverage.

Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms.

Install and configure new SQL Servers.

Deploy database change scripts as a part of application upgrades.

When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance, server configuration changes, or index/query changes.

Supporting the Window Environment.

Document the company’s database environment.
