Bid Director for a major UK managed services provider


Up to £75k base plus 15% bonus and £6k car allowance


UK wide locations- home or office based.


Proactively lead and manage pursuit teams through the full engagement process, in successfully signing material opportunities to support our client in achieving its business goals through the deployment of best in class deal practice. The role starts once an opportunity has been identified, and extends through qualification, deal preparation and approval, through to submission, customer follow-up, contract signature and internal handover.


Key Result Areas


  • With sales lead, actively select the right pursuits of prospects and target opportunities in line with business strategy

  • With the sales lead develop and lead the win strategy; take the holistic view in shaping the commercial and technical solution, customer requirements and supply chain to maximise the probability of success

  • Lead to ensure win strategy is understood/upheld. Margin and profitability targets are optimised

  • Lead and manage pursuit teams and inputs from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving sales, marketing, product teams, finance, commercial, legal and delivery

  • Overall responsibility for compliance with the governance of the deal, ensuring stakeholders have early visibility and that the bid is deliverable

  • Risk tracking and management throughout the bid process

  • Lead to maximise shortlist rate by ensuring the impact and quality of the client’s proposition is at the highest level

  • Lead to maximise win rate by programme managing the team in Q&A, presentation and further dialogue/negotiation sessions through to contract signature

  • Contributing to and review the commercial aspects of the deal, supporting the solution lead to ensure the services are included in the final price to the customer

  • Contributing to the written proposal – both in terms of content and presentation (i.e. management summary)

  • Understand and resolve complex technical, strategic and business issues

  • Support negotiations with customers and critical third party suppliers ensuring sound strategic, legal, commercial and operational arrangements are put in place to support contracting arrangements

  • Program manage schedules and documentation through contract negotiation

  • Lead to ensure lessons are learnt through post bid analysis sessions. Communicate analysis

Knowledge/Skills and Experience


  • Proven capability in delivering winning, multi-million pound product or complex services opportunities

  • Background in solution/services and experience of bid campaign management from opportunity identification through to project delivery. Provides valuable input into opportunity qualification, win strategies and commercial discussions

  • Comfortable working at CEO / Director Level (internal and external customer)

  • Sound commercial understanding, P&L, and risk management skills

  • Ability to manage complex, multi-worksteam opportunities

  • Solid understanding and management of internal governance procedures

  • Engenders strong will to win within the team

  • Proactive and takes ownership

  • Advanced written English skills accompanied with a clear communication style, market awareness

  • Strong understanding of commercial law and financial modelling

  • Good negotiation skills and ability to influence at all levels

  • Strong programme management skills

  • Presentation skills to customer level competency

  • Achieved or working toward the Association of Proposal Management Professionals Practitioner Level (APMP).
