United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Global Media Manager

Want to use your media skills to help fight global poverty

International development charity VSO is looking for an experienced media officer to help us tell more people about VSO’s work in some of the world’s poorest countries.

You’ll develop media strategies and secure quality media coverage internationally to support the work of teams across the VSO network, including working with teams in our federation members, country offices, as well as supporting our initiatives in fundraising, recruiting new volunteers, working with our local supporters and corporate partners and campaigning for policy change to help poor and marginalised communities.

VSO has some great stories to tell, with hundreds of volunteers living and working in communities in developing countries. You’ll need to build strong relationships with volunteers, colleagues and journalists to help us show the development impact of VSO’s unique approach to fighting poverty through people. You’ll learn a lot, working as part of a dynamic team with colleagues in the UK team as well as our programmes in more than 25 countries around the world.

Skills, qualifications and experience required

You will have experience of media relations work in an international context and you’ll feel comfortable working with regional teams. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will enable you to write effective press releases, reports and blogs for a range of different audiences. Your established media contacts and ability to build effective international networks will mean that you are able to spot media opportunities and secure relevant coverage.

A practical understanding of international development issues is essential. Experience of supporting senior leaders to build effective media profiles is a definite advantage.
