The Company
Our client is a well established and leading UK real estate development company, delivering major commercial, residential, educational, cultural and community developments in the UK’s largest cities.
They are involved in the full development process from identifying and assembling sites, developing designs and obtaining planning permission, through to financing, project management of the construction process, letting, asset management and selling, and have many prestigious projects in their portfolio in Birmingham, Manchester and Kings Cross in London.
The Role
My client is now has a exciting and challenging vacancy for an IT Manager, based in central London.
Their IT department is responsible for the entire organisation’s technical infrastructure. The IT Manager works as part of the wider IT team, and has responsibility for advising on IT solutions that will best support the company’s growth, outlining the most effective resources and overseeing IT projects from scoping, design and development to completion.
As such, this position is crucial to the business continuity and future success of my client’s business.
Responsibilities include:
Strategy, Budgeting and Projects
- Works with the Head of Information Management in actively forecasting future IT requirements, developing the yearly IT strategy and relevant budgetary requirements for approval
- Lead on implementation of IT projects in line with IT strategy to ensure solutions add value to the business
- Monitor and manage the IT expenditure against budget including PO orders and invoices
- Lead on the procurement of hardware, software licences, warranties and services
- Select and implement systems to ensure business continuity and network security
Internal systems and processes
- Maintains organisation’s effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering and supporting strategic plans for implementing information technologies
- Lead, coordinate and enforce relevant systems, policies and procedures
- Recommends areas for improvement in internal processes along with a range of solutions
- Works closely with relevant project teams to implement internal systems
- Leads internal teams and external consultants
3 rd Party Vendor Management
- Manage the current Managed Service Provider (MSP)
- Ensure suppliers contract obligations are adhered to, including optimisation and evolution of contracts as well as adherence to agreed SLAs
- Escalation of contract, supplier or service issues which cannot be resolved locally
- Regular reviews vendor performance and monitors any actions that may arise from reviews
- Evaluating potential vendors, suppliers and consultants
Service Desk Administration
- Leads and prioritises all Service Desk activities, reporting to the Head of Information Management
- Oversees the administration of Service Desk software
- Ensures that organizations IT assets are tracked and maintained responsibly
Staff responsibilities
- The IT Manager will report to the Head of Information Management, who in turn reports to the Partner responsible for Operations.
- Line management of a team of 3 staff: one IT Infrastructure Engineer and two IT Support Technicians
- Coordinates the recruitment, selection and training of IT staff
- Conducts effective performance evaluations and mentor those less experienced
- Clearly communicates expectations, planning, monitoring and appraising job results
About you
You will need excellent strategic, project management and people skills combined with a good understanding of business needs including complex information and technical requirements. At the same time, you’ll need to be able to communicate effectively at all levels, but particularly with users, internal support teams and IT services providers.
The role requires exceptional organisational skills including the ability to prioritise own work as well as teams workload, deliver projects to tight deadlines and within constraints, and flexibility to adapt plans to respond to business needs.
You will be confident, have a very strong initiative and motivation to continually improve internal processes and systems as well as the performance of the team.
The job holder will be expected to have a very strong technical background as there will be a requirement to be hands on across the entire range of the IT departments activities. You should be able cover all of the support functions of the IT Infrastructure Engineer and IT Systems Technicians to deal with sickness or holidays.
You’ll work closely with the Head of Information Management to achieve the strategic objectives in line with overall business priorities.

Qube Horizon, Access SelectHR, Exchequer Conject, Microsoft SharePoint, Egnyte, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft SQL Server and database administration, SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services), Web Services, Windows 2012 Infrastructure, VMWare, MS Exchange, Citrix XenApp.
