Head of Surveyors – Technical Operation
This is a very exciting opportunity for experienced technical building manager to work in a fresh, creative, fast phased and customer oriented Structural insurance company.
It is about energizing and creating a sense of direction for the Technical service of the company (Surveyors, engineers, external providers etc) in an exciting momentum for change. It involves energizing the whole of the team to strive towards our vision by embracing and embodying our client driven service.
This new role will as well manage a large team of surveyors that work as a contractors, establishing parameters and a feedback system with the company provider.
It has to develop a new framework by reviewing policies, developing SLA, KPI, and overall create the Technical department ensuring that internal and external surveyors follow the same practices and there is a good report system.
Reports to: General Directorate of operations
The purpose of the role:
Manage the operation end to end ensuring the service provided is efficient and effective standard and complies with all the regulations and Standards such as Warranty, Building Regulations etc.
Manage a team of professionally qualified engineers, project managers and surveyors, their work activities and their performance with the goal of develop, maintain and strengthen relationships while securing support and forming alliances with both internal and external customers by the application of specialist technical knowledge and understanding of Building Regulations, Engineering, BC Standards and Warranty Claims. Manage the outsourced service delivery contracts eg Capita surveyors, in order to ensure a consistent service delivery across the UK.
By the guidance of the GDO, develop the service’s and operations business plan.
Main Duties / Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
- Lead the technical department ensuring the
- Oversees that all organizational standards policies and practices are in place in the terminal with a clear understanding
- Prepare and deliver departmental plans.
- Develop and communicate objectives and targets, check progress towards attainment, providing feedback, advice and guidance.
- Address project scope creep, objections and problems, inter team and interpersonal dynamics and other delivery issues that could impact profitability, feasibility, relationships, etc.
- Focus on planning and organizing the team and workload, establishing KPI and setting a proper UK visits plan that could enforce the relationship with clients and be efficient.
Managing a team.
- Clearly communicate the direction, required performance, and challenges of the Operation to the team (surveyors, engineers etc)
- Plan the development of team, coordinate actions, coaching others in compliance and diligently addressing performance issues and conflicts, both at the individual and organizational level.
- Follow the human resource administration practices, including Absence, performance improvement program, disciplinary and grievance policy.
- Providing visible leadership to the team, ensuring they are motivated and operate at high levels of both performance and efficiency.
- Develop a Technical operations team culture focused on customer service, safety, compliance and continuous improvement.
Managing an outsourced platform
- Planning and organizing the work activities, including managing and coordinating visits, developing monthly plans, monitoring performance and achieving set goals according to approved principles and within agreed parameters
- Creating a true partnership with the contractor / service provider
- Ensuring all policies, standard and processes are mirrored by the service provider.
- Monitor deliverables and be prepared to implement changes as required
- Keep in constant contact and be clear about company expectations within the contractors’ behaviour.
- Negotiated the outsourcing contract including SLA and deliverables.
- Motivate the outsourced team just as it is motivated the in-house team
- Keep track of the composition of the team. If there is staff turnover or new members join the team, ask to see their CVs and retain the right to reject them as team members if they do not meet with company requirement.
- Ensure that the “image” specified by the Company is maintained
Technical Acumen
- Secure and provide expert advice on all technical matters.
- To act as an in-house technical consultant to arbitrate on all technical matters where there is a difference of professional opinion or uncertainty and provide guidance where necessary.
- Ensure standards are followed across the team by providing guidance and direction on all technical issues.
Competence, training and knowledge management
- Review the current operations and technical system and endeavour any action required in order to optimise resources-service provided.
- To spot check on ongoing jobs to confirm technical adequacy of contract offered, part completed and completed technical assessments
- Proactively develop new ways to prevent service failures.
- Develop, maintain and strengthen relationships while securing support and forming alliances with both internal and external stakeholders, trade associations, government departments (e.g. NHBC, EOTA)
Essential:
• Good first degree in Civil Structural Engineering Surveying Architectural
• Membership of a relevant technical/professional body.
• 15 years + experience within engineering plus 5 years at a senior level.
• Substantial dealing with complex engineering and technical matters and problems.
• Robust experience in managing mobile teams • Detailed and broad knowledge of the UK construction industry related Regulations, Standards and European codes of practice
