Commissioning Editor, Arts commissioning, BBC Radio 4 (Part-time) - BBC - London
The Commissioning Editor, Arts, is responsible for the overall development of this output, covering every aspect of the arts, ensuring that it reflects the contemporary arts scene in Britain and internationally, is relevant to evolving audience needs and fits the broader strategic direction of the station, on air and on digital platforms.
Role Responsibility
You will join the team of Commissioning Editors who work with the Controller to develop and commission the schedule for Radio 4, taking responsibility for Arts commissions.
Each Commissioning Editor takes responsibility for segments of the schedule defined broadly by genre, and works with BBC and independent programme makers around the United Kingdom to build a schedule of the highest quality for the Radio 4 audience.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have a deep interest and a wide knowledge of the Arts in the UK and internationally. You will also need to demonstrate strong editorial experience in Arts programme-making at a senior level. You will need the ability to manage complex relationships with programme makers and many other teams within and outside the BBC. You will need the ability to deliver excellence whilst working with tight budget constraints. Excellent communication skills are essential, with the ability to relay contentious decisions without compromising valuable relationships. You will also have excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work under pressure, whilst being able to anticipate, identify and analyse and problems and deliver solutions, as well as focus on long term objectives.
