We are recruiting a Humanitarian Response Officer who will be required to enhance Save the Children’s global capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by humanitarian crises.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

Save the Children’s origins lie in emergency response and it has remained central to our work ever since. With the increasing frequency and severity of emergencies world-wide the organisation is in the process of increasing its standby capacity to support programmes.

As Humanitarian Response Officer your main responsibilities will include:

  • Co-ordinate mobilisation of resources for humanitarian response, including proposal development on key UK donors with Humanitarian Advisors, liaising with the Humanitarian Technical Unit, finance, awards, logistics and HR teams

  • Assist in quality development and support to humanitarian responses, including research, capacity building and preparedness activities with newly affected countries

  • Act as the central point of contact and first source of information for country and emergency contexts.

To be successful you will have direct experience of designing and implementing emergency programmes for an international organisation, probably in a managerial role. You’ll have sound knowledge of the wider humanitarian sector, including personal or professional networks, and the current emergency institutional, legal and policy environment. You can demonstrate an ability to present arguments clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal and external audiences both written & verbal. You have excellent inter-personal and leadership skills and ability to work within and / or lead large and diverse teams in often stressful environments.

This is a permanent position within a very vibrant and exciting team of highly skilled professionals. The salary package is competitive plus pension with travel and an opportunity to work with many stakeholders across the world.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we’ll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
