We now have a hugely exciting opportunity for an Assistant General Manager to join our flagship Westfield Stratford City centre, taking accountability for the overall operational management, direction and coordination of all centre functions. You will establish all operational strategies, effectively directing the centre to achieve all business objectives; driving profitability, operational excellence, management income, and customer service strategy.


Over the last year, Westfield Stratford City experienced 42.6m annual customer visits and £1.04bn total annual sales. The development comprises of 345 retailers situated in approx. 3 million sqf of retail, leisure, office and hotel space, with future phasing of further developments planned. Located adjacent to the Olympic Park and the prestigious gateway to the Olympic Games in 2012, Westfield Stratford City is part of the largest urban regeneration project ever undertaken in the UK.


In this role, you will be…


  • Develop, implement and evaluate the annual business plan, ensuring these strategies are agreed with General Manager and work with departmental heads to ensure their individual plans complement this plan to deliver all objectives and the centre Net Operational Income (NOI)

  • Work with the Finance Manager on the annual budgets and 6 monthly Long Term Forecasts, present to and gain final approval from the General Manager

  • Identify potential areas of financial opportunity; develop business cases and feasibility studies and present to the General Manager

  • Work with all direct reports to ensure each team is effectively managed and consistently delivers to the business objectives and key brand values

  • Establish excellent relations with retailers to ensure all operational procedures are fully implemented and devise initiatives to improve customer service and maximise their turnover

  • Implement a professional networking strategy with the appropriate community and business leaders, institutions and government representatives ensuring the centre gains a strategic advantage and leads from the front

  • Develop and implement innovative strategies that ensure the centre is at the forefront of customers minds for retail, catering and leisure mix, customer service and operational excellence

  • Work with Leasing to ensure all shop designs and installations are of the highest standard possible, and ensure that on site tenant construction is compliant with approved plans

  • Work with Development in formulating feasibility budgets for development projects and ensure all projects are undertaken with minimal disruption to retail and non-retail business

  • Effective management of Centre security; delivery of retail crime initiatives, security and threat assessments and Emergency Response plan

  • Proactively contribute to company procedures and manuals including: crisis management, H&S, contractors manual, rules & regulations, incident reporting, manual handling, COSHH, control room operations, duty Manager’s file, Disability -Discrimination Act and Data Protection

We’re looking for someone with…


  • Extensive operational management experience with project start-up exposure in a dynamic, fast growing and demanding environment – ideally gained within the retail, FMCG or property management sector.

  • Corporate finance experience, budgeting, forecasting and long term financial planning

  • Relevant safety training and a working knowledge of health and safety legislation with practical experience in the implementation of procedures

  • Strong leadership and management skills in recruitment, training, conducting performance reviews and maximising productivity

  • Proven experience in budget development and management
