The Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute is one of the University’s flagship Institutes that was established in 2010. It is internationally-recognized as a centre of excellence for the field of neuroscience as applied to mental health. Its mission is to drive the development of new research areas aimed at translating the fundamental discoveries made by Cardiff neuroscientists and geneticists in the major psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders into a greater understanding of disease mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
An important component of our mission is to train the next generation of clinical and non-clinical scientists to continue this vital research into the future. Our interdisciplinary work actively exposes basic researchers to the key challenges of translational research and clinical researchers to the potential of advances in basic neurosciences.
The Institute is seeking to recruit a dynamic early career scientist looking for the next step in their academic career to join the Institute as a Lecturer in Stem Cell Neurobiology. The post holder will develop their own program of collaborative research, be capable of securing independent funding and will be willing to take the initiative and lead in developing and delivering a new MRes course in Stem Cell Neurobiology. In addition to possessing relevant expertise in stem cell techniques and a demonstrable interest and publication record in neurodevelopmental or neurodegenerative disorders, you will bring to this role excellent oral and written communication skills in order to liaise effectively with team members and key stakeholders both internally and externally.
The post holder will be based in the Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute within the Hadyn Ellis Building.
This is a full time (35hrs per week), is fixed term for five years and available immediately.
