Research Assistant

University of Cambridge

University of Cambridge – Faculty of Education

Research Assistant (2 posts, part-time, fixed-term)

We seek to appoint two Research Assistants (0.6 FTE) to work within the recently launched Centre for Play in Education, Development and Learning (PEDaL) within the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. These positions are funded by the LEGO Foundation to provide research support for a longitudinal project exploring the measurement of play in childhood, and how children’s play is associated with their developing social and emotional skills during the first two years of formal schooling. Measures include; theory-of-mind understanding, emotion understanding, sociometric interviews, language development & observations of children’s play interactions.

The successful applicants will work as part of a team of researchers led by Dr Jenny Gibson and so will receive plenty of support and training. You will, however, be expected to work independently in liaising with schools and teachers and carrying out office-based duties (e.g., coding videos). As the work entails multiple visiting to schools applicants must be willing to travel.

Fixed-term: The funds for a two-year post are available from 1 February 2016 to 31 January 2018; and for a six-month post from 1 February 2016 to 31 July 2016.  Please advise in your covering letter for which post you would like to be considered.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
