Work Relief Charity Recruitment is recruiting for one of the world’s most recognisable charities is looking to recruit a Support Worker for their Central Croydon project.

Central Croydon


£22,000 per annum


37.5 hours per week (7 day rota including some evenings and weekends)

Our client specialises in the provision of support, guidance and housing with single homeless people, and we are looking for a dedicated and innovative Support Worker to join the team to provide a direct housing service to support single people up to 65 years of age with a range of complex needs including experience of homelessness or rough sleeping, substance misuse and/or mental ill health


Duties will include:


  • Holding a caseload of customers and coordinate their support packages including accessing appropriate statutory and voluntary services.

  • Interview and assess suitability of referrals to the criteria of the project and to provide written feedback to unsuccessful applicants.

  • Agree support plans with customers and to record outcomes and review progress in achieving their goals.

  • Ensure that customers are supported to achieve independent living through proactive support and linking in with relevant agencies.

  • Work proactively with external agencies that are providing support to our customers often
    providing joint support planning.

  • Ensure that all voids are advertised and lettings made promptly.

  • Support customers to pay their service charges, including providing advice on benefits and debt management.

  • Ensure that all Housing benefit claims are in payment and promptly deal with any housing
    benefit issues.

  • To be accessible and responsive at all times to customers’ concerns and requests for information.

  • Deal with breaches of occupancy agreements sensitively and efficiently, in accordance with warnings and appeal procedure.

  • Report repairs and maintenance in accordance with policy and procedure

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experience support professional with knowledge and understanding of promoting independent living with young homeless people and providing structured support to vulnerable client groups.


Ideally you will have experience in housing, homelessness, family support, casework, outreach work or youth work.


Suitable candidates will have experience and/or knowledge in the following:


  • Experience of supporting vulnerable people

  • An understanding of the reasons why people become homeless

  • An understanding of the needs and challenges of homeless people, including those who have support needs including drug, alcohol and mental health needs

  • Ability to agree support plans with customers and review progress to achieve their goals

  • Ability to be approachable and accessible to Customers
