We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist in Acute Stroke to carry out MRC-funded research into the hamartin/mTOR pathway in cerebral ischemia.


Stroke is the third largest cause of death and the leading cause of disability worldwide. The Laboratory of Cerebral Ischaemia has significant experience at undertaking research into neuroprotective strategies for acute stroke, mainly focusing on novel molecular pathways that can reduce the injury to the brain caused by an ischaemic insult.


As our Postdoctoral Scientist in Acute Stroke, you will be expected to design and implement experiments using a variety of techniques including in vivo models of cerebral ischaemia and primary in vitro cell culture, communicate clearly and consistently with other members of the research team, and prepare publications and grant applications for further funding.


A PhD or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or a related subject is essential for this position for this position. You will have a track record in either stroke research or vascular biology, with an emphasis on both in vivo and primary in vitro work. Experience in surgery, animal handling, cell culture and immunohistochemistry, and microscopy would be preferred.


The post is fixed-term for up to 12 months initially. Applications from candidates who have not yet completed their PhD will be considered, to be appointed at Grade 6 (£27,328 – £32,600 p.a.) with amended duties and responsibilities.
