Research Network Facilitator

Background Many people choose British Sign Language (BSL) as a second language however we know almost nothing about how hearing adults learn to sign and whether it differs to learning a spoken second language. Gary Morgan (PI) is funded by the Leverhulme trust to set up a research network with 2 principle aims: (1) to bring together a specific group of researchers across international boundaries and disciplines to further this field. (2) to develop new methods and research paradigms to investigate this topic further. The Research Network Facilitator will work alongside the PI to ensure the smooth running and productivity of the network.


Responsibilities 


• Support PI in planning of bi-monthly research workshops across partners in Europe
• Facilitate communication between labs


• Booking accommodation, travel and setting up timetable of presentations


• Support PI in setting up and management of final grant conference


• Support PI in facilitation of each partner’s research role in the research study


• Support data collection and dissemination of analysis plans (under the guidance of the PI).


• Support PI in consulting with an advisory committee


Person Specification


Qualifications & Experience


  • First degree in Psychology, Linguistics or related discipline

  • Knowledge of BSL

  • Project management skills – setting up multi-people meetings, organising travel and booking facilities

  • Research experience in Experimental Psychology or Language Sciences: data collection and analysis

Abilities & Skills


  • Demonstrably highly organised

  • Communication skills (written and face-to-face)

  • Knowledge of BSL

  • Inferential statistics/analysis in Experimental Psychology or Linguistics
