Associate Research Fellow/ Research Fellow in Environment and Human Health: Valuing the health benefits of city well-being


An exciting opportunity has arisen at the internationally regarded European Centre of Environment and Human Health (www.ecehh.org) in the University of Exeter Medical School, starting as soon as possible.


We are seeking to appoint an Associate Research Fellow/Research Fellow to a fixed term, full time post for approx. 8 months to support the Innovate UK funded project “Valuing the health benefits of city well-being”.


The post will involve conducting research on the monetary and non-monetary valuation of the benefits of wellbeing in cities, in collaboration with Happy City, a company working on tools to measure wellbeing (http://www.happycity.org.uk/). The research will include literature review and development of a model to estimate the value of wellbeing, which will feed into a toolkit for the assessment of wellbeing for policymakers.


The successful candidate will have an established record of research excellence in the field of environment and human health and well-being, including, preferably, the valuation of wellbeing or health. You will join a multi-disciplinary team based at the University of Exeter Truro Campus (Cornwall, UK).


Applicants must be qualified to PhD level, (or be about to complete) in economics, psychology, health geography or a closely related discipline, and be able to demonstrate a strong potential for research leadership with a track record in refereed publications and involvement in submitting successful grant applications. Experience of literature reviews, the valuation of health or wellbeing is preferred. Additionally, at Research Fellow level, the successful applicant will be nationally recognised and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. The starting salary will be £25,769- £28,982 for an Associate Research Fellow or £33,574 – £34,576 for a Research Fellow.
