We are seeking to appoint a non-clinical Lecturer (grade 7) in the Wales Heart Research Institute (WHRI) based in the School of Medicine, Cardiff University. We are seeking ambitious and highly motivated individual with a strong research portfolio in cardiovascular research. The post could be based in any relevant Institute in the School of Medicine (Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, Primary Care and Public Health, Molecular and Experimental Medicine or Psychological Medicine/Clinical Neurosciences, Cancer and Genetics), and aligned with strategic research priorities, including University Research Institutes (Systems Immunity, Neurosciences and Mental Health Research Institutes). 


The Wales Heart Research Institute represents cardiovascular research throughout Cardiff University and the University Hospital Wales. The Institute includes laboratory-based and clinical research scientists working together as interdisciplinary teams tackling important cardiovascular problems including atherosclerosis, vascular inflammation, heart failure and sudden cardiac death.
The appointee will be an emerging lead in his/her areas of cardiovascular research.  Broadly this could relate to either infection/immunity/inflammation, neurosciences/psychological medicine, cancer/genetics or population medicine. Relevant approaches could include:  cellular, molecular, or in vivo/patient based or translational research, epidemiology or in silico/mathematical modelling or ‘omics.


  • You would lead your own research resulting in publications in high-impact journals and lead successful grant applications as principal investigator to national funding agencies.

  • You would collaborate with other research leads locally and externally and establish your scientific research independence.

  • You would assist in the delivery of high-quality and research-led teaching to under- and postgraduates as required.

Generous start-up funds (a funded PhD student) will be available to outstanding applicants. Those with significant external funding are particularly encouraged to apply.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week) and is 3-year fixed term in the first instance, with a possibility to become ongoing, and available from 1st May 2016.
