PhD Research Studentship in Sport Psychology
Applications are invited for a four-year full time PhD Research Studentship funded by the City Football Services (CFS) and the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences (SSHES) at Bangor University. The successful candidate will be supervised by Professor Nichola Callow, Dr James Hardy from the Institute for the Psychology of Elite Performance (IPEP), Bangor University, and Dr Cherrie Daley from City Football Services. Possible areas of research are: attachment theory, behavioural development and/or group dynamics. S/he will also be expected to engage in supervised applied support work with players, parents, coaches, and other support staff in Manchester City Football Academy.
SSHES has excellent facilities and is situated in an idyllic setting on the banks of the Menai Straits, close to the mountains of Snowdonia. It is very committed to the all-round academic and professional development of its research students. In addition, the City Football Academy is widely acknowledged as one of the finest training and development facilities in the sport. It is home to many world class sports scientists, medics, performance analysts, and coaches working to ensure the optimal development of the club’s male and female footballers.
The studentship will cover registration fees plus a starting maintenance grant of £14,047 pa. Successful applicants will normally have a First Class Honours Degree or a Masters degree in sport science or psychology, the ability to work independently with support from a supervisor, and the enthusiasm to contribute to stimulating research and practice environments.

Interview Process
The closing date for formal applications will be Thursday 14th Jan 2016, and short-listed applicants will be required to attend an interview at Bangor University (academically focused). Successful candidates from that interview will then progress to a second interview at City Football Academy in Manchester (applied focused). Candidates must be available for both interviews. The interviews have provisionally been scheduled for the week commencing 22nd Feb 2016.
