Research Assistant

Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a research assistant to work on projects on smoking cessation in smokers with mental health problems. The post-holder will join an established team of tobacco and e-cigarette researchers within one of Europe’s leading addiction research centres.  The work is being led by Dr Leonie Brose, and is funded by Cancer Research UK.

Smoking remains the most important preventable cause of cancer in the UK. A third of smokers (3 million individuals) have mental health problems. People with mental health problems have been excluded from the decrease in smoking in recent decades; smoking prevalence is far higher than in the general population, causing significantly reduced health and life expectancy. This role will support a Cancer Research UK/BUPA Foundation Cancer Prevention Fellowship which aims to help reduce smoking prevalence in people with mental health problems.

The Research Assistant will mainly be working on projects which will provide crucial new insights into knowledge and practice of healthcare professionals delivering smoking cessation interventions and  interventions that may reduce relapse to smoking.
