Senior Lecturer in Children’s Studies

Children’s Studies is a multidisciplinary, child-centred area of teaching and research that looks at children and childhood from a holistic perspective. It draws on a broad range of disciplines, including children’s literature and culture, the creative arts, education, psychology, drama, law and human-rights, history, health, geography and sociology with the aim of providing students with a broad-based knowledge and appreciation of the social, cultural and legal frameworks in which childhood is constructed. To build on the success of its undergraduate programmes in Children’s Studies NUI Galway now wishes to appoint a Senior Lecturer to fulfil the role of Programme Director for the BA (Children’s Studies) and to lead the development of further teaching and research activities in this area.
Candidates will have a PhD in Children’s Studies or a related discipline, have relevant prior teaching or professional experience, and have an internationally established record of child-centred research in her/his discipline. A successful track record of acquiring research funding is also essential.
In addition to contributing to teaching and research in the area of Children’s Studies the appointee will be responsible for the academic, administrative and strategic development of the BA (Children’s Studies) and related programmes and have overall responsibility for developing this interdisciplinary area of teaching and research at NUI Galway. As such, candidates must have administrative and academic leadership experience suitable for leading the academic development of the programme, which is sympathetic to the overall mission of the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

Salary:
€65,000 p.a. to €88,482 p.a.
(This appointment will be made on the Senior Lecturer in line with current Government pay policy)
(For pre 1995 public sector entrants in Ireland, the D class Salary rates will apply)
