Operational Delivery Profession Officer (Surge & Rapid Response Team) - HM Revenue and Customs - Croydon

The Job

The Operational Delivery Profession is the largest profession in the civil service and performs vital roles across government to keep the country running and making sure UK citizens get the services and protection they need.


We are offering an exciting opportunity to become an apprentice in the profession, and become part of the Surge & Rapid Response Team working across government departments. You will be dealing with different types of customers and delivering a range of public services, in a variety of locations. This expanding team has already enjoyed exciting and productive deployments in DWP, HMRC, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the Home Office and Defra.


Your duties will vary and may change frequently; they will include: managing cases and resolving customer enquiries, using multiple government databases, using the telephone, writing letters/emails, using social media to communicate to customers and dealing with citizens face to face in a range of environments.


Your Commitment


These posts are full time, you will work 37 hours per week with a variety of pre-planned working patterns including evenings and weekends. You may also be required to work nights.

You will be based in a specified location but you will be expected to work in other offices or locations. You should also expect to travel and/or stay away from home to carry out work for different government departments.


You should be prepared to travel at short notice to locations across the country. When you are deployed away from your home base your travel and accommodation will be paid for.


You will be entitled to claim an additional allowance if you are required to work unsociable hours, or in some circumstances when deployed away from home.


The Apprenticeship


About the Apprenticeship (please see attached the Public Service Operational Delivery Profession Standards.)


The Apprenticeship takes 12-18 months to complete and is open to people of all ages. The apprenticeships have been developed in partnership with City & Guilds and successful apprentices will have an internationally recognized qualification in operational delivery.

Our apprenticeship scheme offers a real opportunity to optimize your learning and development in a supportive environment. If successful, you will gain a permanent job in the Civil Service as well as a wide range of expertise in operational delivery across public service.


You will be employed on a permanent basis, subject to successful completion of the apprenticeship and a period of probation lasting 1 year. If you are an external appointee and do not pass your apprenticeship, the Department may decide to terminate your contract.
