United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Talking Peace Festival - Event volunteers

Salary: Unpaid
Duration: Shifts available across 12 days (21 September – 2 October)
Location: London

International Alert is recruiting a team of enthusiastic volunteers for its Talking Peace Festival this September.

The festival provides a unique arts and cultural platform for engaging people with the most urgent peace and conflict issues around the world. Running for its third year in London from Wednesday 21 September – Sunday 2 October 2016, it will feature a packed programme of activities, including: a pop-up restaurant focusing on the cuisines and histories of Lebanon and Sri Lanka, an exhibition by Syrian artists in exile, a photography retrospective of Alert’s work over the past 30 years, film nights and our peace-inspired technology events.

We are looking for a team of highly organised and positive team players to join our team and help make the festival a great success. You must be able to commit to working at least four shifts throughout the festival (a shift lasts 4-6 hours, depending on the event). Ideally, you will be flexible about working on evenings and weekends as well as weekdays.

You will be helping with the day-to-day running of events – including set-up, promotion, flyering, welcoming guests and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

We’re looking for people who can demonstrate some of the following skills or experience:

  • Running and promoting events;

  • Photography;

  • Video/ film making;

  • Design and decoration;

  • Social media;

  • Websites.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a friendly and busy team that delivers an innovative cultural festival. You will gain experience in working on a variety of activities, from organising art exhibitions to running pop-up restaurants. You will also have the opportunity to harness and showcase particular skills, such as film-making and photography.

Volunteering will present opportunities to meet a range of interesting people and learn more about the fascinating work of peacebuilding. Successful volunteers will also be offered a reference to help with future employment.

We reimburse lunch expenses of up to £5.00 a day for volunteers working a minimum of four hours per day. Volunteers will also have their travel expenses to and from work reimbursed, but are encouraged to travel after 9.30 a.m. when possible and to purchase a travel card.

How to apply:

To apply, please send a CV and brief covering letter to communications@international-alert.org, stating why you would like to volunteer for Talking Peace Festival 2016, and highlighting any particular skills you might have – such as event planning, multimedia or social media.
