Background
Founded in November 2010, Development Pathways has grown rapidly into an internationally respected consultancy business, providing expert advice to clients in areas including: social protection, social development, gender, livelihoods, financial inclusion and management information systems. We are committed to innovative, progressive and evidence-based social policy and aim to influence international debates on social policy through our website and participation in international fora. In the past three years we have worked in a range of countries – including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana, Ethiopia, South Africa, Mauritius, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Pakistan, Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Viet Nam, Philippines, Fiji, Kiribati and Haiti – and for a range of clients including Australian Aid, DFID, UNICEF, UNDP, ILO, GIZ, KFW, the Nike Foundation, the Girl Hub, HelpAge International, Action Against Hunger and Save the Children. We are also consortium members of three major DFID Frameworks – the CEILS PEAKS, the Wealth Creation Hub, and the Global Evaluation Framework – and are part of Australian Aid’s Expert Panel on social protection.
Development Pathways currently has 9 staff and 3 Directors, which includes a team of 5 technical specialists. Our office is located in Orpington and, as an employer, we try to put our staff first and are committed to flexible working practices and developing our staff’s professional capabilities.
We are now recruiting for an intern (6 months position, full time or part time) to implement the company’s communications strategy.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in the office in Orpington, Greater London.
Purpose
The role of Communication Intern is to support various communications activities, manage website updates and support the migration of data from the existing filing system to a new knowledge management system.
The Position reports to the Business Development Manager.
Responsibilities
Communications Activities (30%)
·Develop information materials such as company profile leaflets
·Create infographics for various information contents
·Coordinate blog writings with internal and external writers
·Coordinate circulation of blogs, “Pathways Perspectives” and project related publication via the existing mail list
·Manage and update Social Media accounts including LinkeIn and Twitter.
Website management (25%)
·Manage the company website’s updates
·Create new website contents where necessary, such as news stories an staff profiles
·Update experience/projects list
·Support transition of website platform to a new platform
Knowledge Management (45%)
·Support the development of a new Knowledge Management system including migration of data from the existing system to a new system
Person specifications
Academic qualification
· Good GCSEs and A Levels in relevant subjects
· Interest in international development, communications and/or Knowledge Management
