Project title: Language, cognition, and brain: a bilingual perspective – lexical representations and selection
Primary supervisor: Dr Yanjing Wu
Project description: More than half of the world population is individuals who speak two languages (i.e., bilinguals). This project will look at how bilinguals handle two languages with one brain, focusing on two related but also independent aspects. This project is concerned with lexical representations and selection, attempting to depict the dynamics of language control in bilinguals. In terms of methodologies, a combination of experimental psychology, eye-tracking, and event-related brain potentials will be used.
Start date: 1 October 2016
Requirements: Applicants must have, or expect to obtain, a minimum of a first class or high upper second-class honours degree in psychology or a related discipline. In general awards are usually made to applicants with first class undergraduate degrees and/or at least a merit at masters level.
