Academics are looking to recruit a graduate teaching assistant for a three-form entry primary school in East London (Waltham Forest). You will be joining the school immediately as a teaching assistant, supporting pupils with specific learning difficulties within the classroom- ASD, ADHD, dyslexia… The position is full time for the entirety of the academic year. Exceptional candidates may have the opportunity to embark upon a Schools Direct at the end of the academic year.

There are strong parental links and regular events where parents/guardians are welcomed into the school to view pupil work. The school is continually looking to enhance its links with the community through further activities.


In recent years, attainment has been above the national and local authority average. With a school action plan now in place to help further increase attainment, the school is looking for strong graduate talent to increase the level of support across the school.


Am I a suitable teaching assistant candidate?


You will be successful with this teaching assistant position if you are a graduate with strong ambitions of becoming a primary school teacher. You should also have some experience of working with pupils with specific learning difficulties or special educational needs. Successful candidates will be available for an immediate start and must be available to work full time and for the length of the academic year.


Successful applicants will be confident and must be able to hit the ground running. This will be essential as it will demonstrate to the school that you have what it takes to be trained as a teacher the following academic year.


What will I be doing?


You will act as a teaching assistant for key stage two pupils with additional learning requirements/special educational needs. The pupils you will be supporting will have ASD, ADHD, global delay, dyslexia and you will be working with them in the classroom, helping them to access the curriculum. There may also be occasions when you will work with pupils in small focus groups in order to work on specific skills in the curriculum.
