The School of Psychology wishes to appoint a Research Assistant to work on a project exploring threat detection, with a focus on objective cues (e.g. physiological responses) and subjective cues (e.g. behavioural measures such as mimicry and alignment). Working with Dr Beth Richardson, the successful applicant will help identify the behavioural cues associated with deceptive intent and use this to design and run three experiments in which the relationship between behavioural cues, physiological response and threat perception are explored. In doing so, you will work as part of a successful research group that utilises technology to measure and understand human behaviour, specifically related to cooperation and deception.
The successful applicant will be housed within the School of Psychology, which is located within the modern, purpose built Darwin Building. The School is well resourced, boasting an extensive range of state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment. This includes an Observational Suite and Brain Imaging Laboratory, containing neuroimaging facilities such as EEG/ERP, EMG, TMS, fNIRS and fTCD.
The successful applicant will possess a thorough understanding of psychological research techniques, including quantitative statistical analysis and have a strong commitment to research, with the ability to implement new research methods. A good first degree in Psychology or a related field is essential.
Self-motivated and flexible, the successful applicant will utilise good organisational skills to manage workload and meet deadlines. Excellent written communication skills, including experience of writing research reports is also required.
The successful applicant will ideally have experience of presenting and publishing research and demonstrate a desire to undertake and publish research that makes important theoretical and applied contributions.
