Senior UX Designer - London - 12 Month Contract
Senior UX Designer – London – 12 Month Contract
My Government Department client is looking to bring on board a Senior Digital UX Designer for a long term contract.
Responsibilities:
- Specialists in interaction and interface design for digital services.
- Comfortable working at both ends of the scale, from high level flows and journeys to the detail of individual elements on screen.
- Focused on making actual working software, rather than spending time creating design artefacts that describe software.
- Familiar with the technical side of designing for the web; enough to have informed discussions with developers
A designer will form a close partnership with a user researcher and often a front end developer and a business analyst, for a given digital service. They put together just enough of a prototype to help the wider team learn about user needs for a given scenario or task.
This could take the form of a rough sketch, a diagram, an interactive mock up or a coded prototype. They will iterate prototypes based on research with users to validate or invalidate design assumptions, moving to working with real code as early as possible.
This role is about challenging assumptions and testing ideas. Rather than make things look ‘pretty’ or design what a stakeholder thinks they need, we’re here to translate known user needs in to a solution that we think meets those needs, and then to test how well those needs have been met.
This insight is then fed in to a current sprint, or in to the product backlog for later. Designers are expected to use existing government visual design style guides and design patterns, where these have already been tested and validated for similar domains and users.
Relevant Experience:
- Experienced in interaction and interface design for digital services.
- Experienced in designing for different screen sizes and input methods (e.g touch, mouse and keystroke).
- Proven experience of working closely with user researchers and designing solutions using insights from research
- Proven experience of working in agile teams
Preferred Experience:
Ability to work directly with the front end code of an application or website, either owning or updating prototypes or making changes to the production code. This means having some skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery. While not essential, many of our designers who don’t code are now learning the basics.
Daily Rate:
£650 – £750
