United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Regional Health Adviser

Save the Children UK are seeking three experienced Regional Health Advisers to provide critical technical assistance to priority countries in order to develop and implement our high quality health programmes and maximise our impact on children. The roles will support our programmes in East and Southern Africa, West and Central Africa and Asia respectively.

Working in more than 120 countries, we work to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our UK and Global Programmes department delivers humanitarian and development programmes, builds partnerships with institutional donors – including governments, multi-laterals and trusts – and drives lasting change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As one of our dedicated Regional Health Advisers you will work within our experienced, committed and multi-sector Health Team, achieving lasting change for children, through the provision of high quality technical advice to health programmes. You will be instrumental in guiding and ensuring technical excellence at all stages of the programme cycle including: design, development, planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation. Your responsibilities will also include capacity building of Country Office staff.

To be successful you will have an internationally recognised qualification in public health (MPH) or equivalent, with extensive experience of developing, implementing and monitoring health programmes in developing countries. You will have a strong understanding of national and district health systems, health policy, and the continuum of care for reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition. In addition you will have:

  • A proven ability to work very effectively with a wide range of stakeholders (international organisations, NGO’s, academics and opinion leaders)

  • The ability to influence and negotiate, and to navigate a complex organisational structure

  • Excellent communication skills – and an ability to adjust these to different stakeholders

  • The ability and the desire to travel to remote and insecure project locations (at least 4 times per year, 10-15 days per trip).

Please note fluency in French is a requirement for the Health Adviser post covering West & Central Africa.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we’ll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
