Durham University

Durham University – Psychology

Contract Type: Fixed term 3 years
Grade: 7
Closing date: 1st May 2016 at 11.30pm

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to pursue a programme of research investigating the relationship between motor control and covert attention.  The position is associated with the ESRC funded project ‘A Motor Bias Theory of Attention’, which aims to characterise the interactions between motor preparation and covert orienting of attention. This specific position is part of a wider project involving research groups in Utrecht and Munich. The project includes one workshop each year, which will be hosted by one of the consortium members (starting in Durham) and a final conference at Durham. The successful applicant will work directly with Dr Daniel T. Smith and will be expected to take an active role in the operation and development of the research and in the research team’s collaboration. The role will also involve working with our project partners, Prof. Thomas Schenk (Ludwig Maximillians University, Germany) and Dr. Stefan van der Stigchel (Utrecht University, Netherlands), including the opportunity to spend time as a visiting researcher at these institutions, and to work with a number of visiting researchers. There will be opportunities to gain teaching experience through lecturing and/or project supervision.
