United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Child Health Adviser – Immunisation

Our Health and HIV programmes are key to our vision and mission and we are dramatically expanding the scale, coverage and impact of our work. As our Child Health Advisor you will play a key role in achieving a lasting change for children in West and Central Africa.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our UK and Global Programmes department delivers humanitarian and development programmes, builds partnerships with institutional donors – including governments, multi-laterals and trusts – and drives lasting change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

Your challenge will be to provide effective technical advice and support programme development in all thematic areas in West and Central Africa. Instrumental in guiding the country programmes in all stages of the programme cycle including design, development, planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation, you will also be heavily engaged in the implementation of our signature programmes. You will:

· Deliver direct interventions with communities and supporting health systems at district and national levels

· Engage in direct programming, policy influence, and advocacy and campaigns activities.

· Design, support and implement key programmes

· Manage and mentor talent and build capacity.

We are looking for a medical doctor (MD or MBBS) with an internationally-recognised qualification in public health (MPH) or equivalent, and permission to work in the United Kingdom. Fluent in English and French, you must also demonstrate:

· Excellent writing skills in both languages

· Deep understanding of key strategies and approaches in RMNCH including HIV/AIDS prevention

· Significant clinical and public health skills and ability to apply them in the field with limited resources

· Substantial experience of implementing and supporting public interventions and health programmes in developing countries, with practical involvement in supporting national or district health systems

· Excellent knowledge of the continuum of care for maternal, new-born and child health, specific interventions to improve health and the building blocks of health systems

· Ability and the desire to travel to remote and insecure project locations.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we’ll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
