Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work as part of a team working on a dedicated project investigating the effects of a prebiotic (dietary fibres that grow beneficial gut bacteria) on brain development. The post is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital and will also involve working with the Departments of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, Experimental Psychology, and Plant Sciences at the University of Oxford, and the Section on Computational and Systems Medicine at Imperial College, London. The post is funded to 31 March 2019.


You will be involved in the setting up and application of electrophysiological, metabolic, metagenomic and behavioural techniques, and ensuring that the deadlines for completion of each set of experiments are met. You will also work on statistical analysis and dissemination of results.  


You will have or be working towards completion of a PhD in neuroscience, molecular/cellular biology or a related discipline. With excellent organisation skills and attention to detail you should be able to manage a planned project and co-ordinate research activities. Familiarity with statistics would be an advantage as would authorship in scientific publications.
