Controller, Entertainment Commissioning, BBC Television - BBC - London

The Controller, Entertainment Commissioning will report to the Acting Director of Television, taking the creative lead for one the BBC’s key genres, responsible for delivering the multi-platform Entertainment strategy across all available platforms. Working closely with the Channel Controllers and Editors you will find and help develop new entertainment programming setting an innovative strategy that effectively reflects the diversity of the BBC’s audiences.

Role Responsibility

By guiding the development process you will bring the best Entertainment programming to all BBC Television platforms, delivering innovative original programmes to the heart of the schedules. You will work across and deliver independent and in-house programming and bring to the BBC projects that deliver to different audiences, make the most of the Entertainment budget and provides impact.

As the Controller, Entertainment Commissioning you will be responsible for setting and communicating Entertainment’s editorial objectives internally and to key partners including BBC Studios, BBC Worldwide and the independent sector. You will be responsible for editorial standards and compliance matters for all Entertainment, including competitions.

The Ideal Candidate
The BBC is seeking a leading industry figure with an extensive editorial reputation for delivering exceptional Entertainment programming. With an in-depth understanding of commissioning strategy, the ideal candidate will have outstanding creative and editorial judgement gained in entertainment programming, this could be , be able to demonstrate an understanding of editorial standards and compliance requirements, particularly as they relate to the BBC Values.

A strong communicator, with the ability to engage and inspire both internally and externally, the role requires a leader who has successfully developed creative partnerships and influenced key business stakeholders. With a passion for and deep understanding of mainstream entertainment programming, you will have proven experience of working with key talent, writers and producers as well as the ability to evidence the growth of new talent in all areas of entertainment, including formats, mainstream and returning series.
