Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in South East London is a large teaching hospital at the forefront of academic and health care excellence. At the heart of the Denmark Hill site is theVariety Children’s Hospital (VCCH)and theChildren’s Emergency Department(ED)which offer a wide range of services and specialities for children and young people at local, regional and tertiary levels. These include medicine, surgery, trauma, neurosurgery, liver, critical care centre, neonates, medical day care and outpatients. Many of the admissions to the hospital come in via the ED. We also have services on our sister site at thePrincess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, neonates, children’s ward and outpatients This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative practitioner to join our Play and Youth Team of five health play specialists and youth worker, led by a Team Coordinator. You will be working on the Denmark Hill sites across the paediatric wards and ambulatory areas, as well as in the Adolescent room. You will be expected to engage with young people with acute and long-term conditions and build up positive relationships in order to: improve the advocacy for this group of patients; assist in the implementation of the adolescent policy; encourage the personal development of young people with both educational and leisure opportunities through creative activities in a fun and safe environment and; assist in the transition to adult care services. You will have a recognised accreditation as Hospital Play Health Specialist or Youth Worker, and have experience in working with young people (ages 11-18 years), as well as individual and groups and multi-agency work. You must be able to work as part of a team, have youth work skills and be able to motivate young people. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
