Research Assistant

Applications are invited for a full-time Research Assistant to join Dr Sam Chamberlain’s research group, at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge. Dr Chamberlain’s group focuses on understanding and treating impulsive, compulsive, and behaviourally addictive disorders.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for recruiting adult healthy volunteers and patients, telephone screening, running testing sessions (cognitive testing and neuroimaging), and data management. There will also be opportunities to conduct basic data analyses and to contribute to publications and conference proceedings. The work will mostly be based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, but will also involve some time in clinics elsewhere to help with study recruitment.

The successful applicant will have a good degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Psychiatry, Psychiatric Nursing, or a related discipline, and will have excellent communication skills, including an ability to interact well with patients and colleagues. Ideally, you will have some experience working with people who have mental health difficulties, such as in the voluntary sector, research settings, or NHS. Strong organisational and time-management skills will be important. Prior experience observing or conducting cognitive testing and neuroimaging would be useful but is not a pre-requisite, as there will be ample training opportunities in the post.

Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Sam Chamberlain (srchamb@gmail.com).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check. This appointment also requires a Research Passport application.
