Research Fellow

The Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy (HCSP) is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Fellow. The HCSP’s mission is to grow philanthropy by enhancing the quality of the donor experience. It is the home of the new academic discipline of philanthropic psychology.

Under the leadership of the Research Director at HCSP you will contribute to the delivery of a wide range of research projects contracted by charities and their associated organizations. These are cutting edge research projects that offer significant practical value for charities in respect of how they can enhance donor value and consequently the sustainability of their organizations.

These projects also have high publication potential in internationally recognized journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Psychological Science, Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes and Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly.

The research fellow would ideally be someone who would like to obtain an academic career upon the completion of their employment with us. This is a good opportunity for the research fellow to participate in high quality research and further develop their knowledge, skills and publication record.

In addition to your core research activities, you will also be expected to be a team player within the HCSP. All our team members are quite entrepreneurial in nature. So we support each other’s work when necessary and we seek out new opportunities for meaningful growth in every contact we have with internal and external stakeholders.

You will hold a relevant PhD in disciplines where experimental and survey methods are commonly utilised, such as (but not limited to) social psychology, consumer behaviour or organizational behaviour. It is also highly desirable that you have an interest in the charity and wider philanthropic sectors. To be successful in this role you will be an excellent communicator (both written and verbal) and possess first class organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities on a daily basis.

This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week and is fixed term for 12 months in the first instance

For an informal discussion, please contact Professor Jen Shang (Jen.Shang@plymouth.ac.uk)

Closing date: 12 midnight Monday 1 June 2016
