Senior Lecturer/MSc Coordinator

The Centre for Psychiatry is one of the three Centres that comprise the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine, the others being the Centre for Environmental & Preventive Medicine (CEPM) and CRUK Centre for Cancer Prevention (CCP). The Institute has an international reputation for its research and teaching in epidemiology and preventive medicine.


The Centre for Psychiatry offers highly successful MSc and Diploma courses in Mental Health: Transcultural Mental Healthcare/Psychological Therapies/Mental Health & Law, with plans for further growth and pathway options. Courses are both campus-based and distance learning and address the gaps in the training of professionals working in multicultural populations with diverse needs for assessment and treatment of mental health problems.


The postholder will provide overall supervision, guidance and future direction and assist the Course Director in the further expansion of these courses as well as contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching/tutoring. The courses and college provide a stimulating environment in which the curiosity about race, culture and ethnicity and the psychological and clinical management of health issues can be explored in the spirit of advancing knowledge and education in order to improve quality of care. The courses aim to promote critical thinking and research skills.


The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree or equivalent in mental health or social sciences and/or educational methods and processes. They should also have a PhD research doctorate or equivalent in mental health or social sciences and all learning methods. Furthermore you should have substantial experience of learning and teaching in Higher Education, including the co-ordination of programmes, student support and quality assurance.


Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.


This is a full-time (non-clinical) fixed term appointment for 3 years. The post is available from September 2016. Salary will be in the range of £52,303 – 58,461 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
