Part-time Bookseller - The Word Bookshop - London SE14

A brand new independent academic bookshop for students and staff at Goldsmiths College, opening in New Cross, needs a permanent part-time bookseller to start work in September.

The contracted hours would be for a minimum of 20 hours per week spread over 4-5 days when the shop is open (Monday-Saturday). However, it is expected that more hours will be available at the busiest times of year (the starts of term – mid-September to mid-October and mid-January to mid-February – and the run up to Christmas), and the ideal candidate would be able to increase their hours worked during these times (to a maximum of 35 hours per week).

The role
First class customer service, including till operation, helping customers with their enquiries, finding and ordering books for customers. Dealing with all areas of day-to-day stock control, from receiving deliveries, booking stock in and replenishing displays. Maintaining the clean and tidy presentation of the bookshop.

The person
While bookselling experience is desirable, as is a knowledge and love of books, it is absolutely essential that applicants have retail experience and can demonstrate an awareness of, and commitment to great customer service. Reliability and enthusiasm are also essential.

Salary and benefits
The rate is £7.85 per hour, paid into a bank account on the last banking day of the month. Holiday allowance is 20 days per annum (pro-rata) + public holidays. Staff discount is available on most stock.
