Rationale:
Working with a small but ambitious fundraising team, the purpose of this role is to develop and manage individual relationships and community partnerships in order to grow unrestricted income and attract wider support for Village Aid, the Peak District’s international development charity.
The Supporter Care and Fundraising Assistant will provide a key fundraising role in the Village Aid team. They will be responsible for specific areas of the annual Fundraising plan (including community and some events income targets) alongside day to day donor care. The post holder will also provide administrative support to the Village Aid Board and work with the Communications team on key marketing and communication material.
In recent years, Village Aid and Concern Universal decided to join forces so that our combined organisational efforts could be used to the maximum benefit of people living in poverty. Consequently, in 2015 Village Aid became a subsidiary of Concern Universal. Village Aid raises funds in support of our joint programmes across Africa, supporting initiatives that promote resilient livelihoods, better health and the upholding of rights. The Supporter Care and Fundraising Assistant will be employed by Concern Universal, though will primarily provide work for Village Aid. Concern Universal is soon to change its name to United Purpose – UP
Responsibilities
• Raise funds from individuals and community groups in line with ambitious plans, through meetings, presentations, applications, mailings and events.
• Ensure Village Aid’s supporters receive the highest quality supporter care and give appropriate and timely responses to all donor email/ phone/ post enquiries and visits.
• Provide administrative support to the smooth-running of Village Aid; including organising meetings, writing minutes, processing incoming mail in a timely and organised manner
• Work with the Communications Team to support the delivery of external communications
Duties
• Fundraising and first class Donor Care:
raise funds from individual and community sources, through building relationships primarily through arranging meetings, preparing presentations and attending networking events to talk about Village Aid and UP’s work to current and potential donors.
develop prospects into meaningful partners, securing resources, services and expertise whilst raising funds
ensure donors receive the highest quality care and support
ensure consistent thanking and processing of donations
provide donors with relevant and inspiring information about Village Aid and UP
contribute to the development, planning and implementation of the fundraising plan
• Administration:
maintain relationships with Village Aid’s suppliers and ensure all donor information is up to date on the fundraising database
organise board meetings and write minutes
process invoices, incoming donations and payments
provide support to the administrative function of Concern Universal
• Communications and Events:
work with the Communications team to produce compelling supporter-facing resources including newsletters, annual review content and marketing resources
manage and develop Village Aid’s social media presence, updating all channels with engaging and timely content
lead on, and work as part of a team on, a variety of donor events
Person Specification – Essential
· Experience of working in a fundraising environment and/ or growing income from community sources
· Experience of delivering high quality supporter/ customer care
· Excellent administrative and organisational skills with real attention to detail
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal – the role will involve regular liaison with donors and prospect donors (individuals, community groups and companies), our global staff team and suppliers
· Knowledge of social media, with an aptitude for writing creative and engaging content
· A self-starter, capable of working independently, as well as part of a team
· Determined and results-focused, with a track record of achieving targets
· High levels of energy and enthusiasm
· A team-player, prepared to get involved in a range of activities
· Able to work flexibly, providing appropriate support at all levels
· Educated to degree level or significant equivalent work experience
· Willingness to work occasional unsociable hours when required (evenings/weekends)
· Commitment to Village Aid’s and UP’s values and a working style that reflects these
Person Specification – Desirable
· Experience of making presentations and public speaking
· Experience of managing volunteers
· Experience of organising (planning and implementing) successful donor events
· Experience of data entry and managing database information
· Knowledge of the local area with existing fundraising contacts and suppliers
· Experience of building relationships with individual supporters, companies or groups
· Experience of copy-writing
· Experience of web editing using a content management system such as WordPress or Drupal
· An understanding and interest in international development
Salary & Terms
Please note this role is a full-time role, Grade 2 b: £18,070 and will be a permanent position, subject to a 6-month probation period.
