Postdoctoral Research Fellow


This is a full time, fixed term position, ending 31 August 2017 with the possibility of extension. 


The post is associated with the project “Subjectivity, Agency and Social Cognition – Challenges for Reductionist Accounts of the Minds” funded by the “New Directions in the Study of the Mind” Templeton program at Cambridge University. Professors Colin Blakemore, Christopher Frith and Patrick Haggard are the investigators of the project. The project will be developed under the umbrella of one of the Central Academic Initiatives of the School of Advanced Study at the University of London, The Human Mind Project (THMP).


The postholder will be expected to contribute to the research, design experiments, and prepare and publish papers in pursuit of the project’s aims and objectives.

The Project The Human Mind Project is a multidisciplinary and international effort to clarify current conceptions of the function, mechanism and products of the human mind. The Project is led by Professor Sir Colin Blakemore and managed by Dr Mattia Gallotti at the School of Advanced Study, and an executive Steering Group from five other UK universities, supported by a large and highly distinguished international Advisory Board.


The project will explore and challenge reductionist, physicalist accounts of processes and phenomena that seem to rest on subjectivity and agency, including “top-down” effects on experience, the effects of social interactions, voluntary decision-making and intentional action. The appointees will be primarily involved in the design and implementation of experiments in newly established laboratory facilities in the Institute of Philosophy, School of Advanced Study, and in the facilities of collaborators.
