Clinical Research Fellow in Imaging

University of Sussex

University of Sussex – Division of Clinical & Laboratory Investigation

Clinical Lecturer Salary Scale: £31,838 to £56,312 per annum

3 Years Fixed Term Contract, Full time

Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is pleased to offer a Clinical Research Fellowship based in the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre on the University of Sussex site in Falmer to commence either 1st February or 1st August, 2016.

Applications are invited from qualified medical practitioners who have completed Foundation training or equivalent, and can demonstrate strong potential for development as a clinical academic. The post-holder will be based at the BSMS Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre (CISC), which comprises 64-slice PET-CT and 1.5T MR imaging systems which will be complimented by a high gradient 3T MRI within the next 12-18 months. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with local academics to develop a research programme tailored to their and the centre’s interests. Funding is available for dedicated research time on the scanner of their choice. The post-holder will provide day-to-day clinical cover for participants and patients undergoing research and clinical scans at the centre, providing an ideal opportunity for a broad range of collaborations with other research groups. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the novel undergraduate teaching programme in imaging that has been developed at BSMS, including Student-Selected Components based at CISC. The post-holder will also provide on a day-to-day basis support to the CISC PET-CT radiographer in the event of any medical emergency.

The post will provide excellent training and experience in imaging research either in PET-CT or MRI or both, and would especially suit someone aiming for an academic career in radiology, nuclear medicine, oncology, neuroradiology, neurology, neuroscience or psychiatry. Whilst in post, the post-holder will be expected to register and complete an MD, PhD or other research qualification with BSMS or one of its partner universities.  The appointment will be for up to 3 years.

Further particulars of the very active and dynamic research and teaching undertaken at BSMS are available on the Medical School website (www.bsms.ac.uk).
