Professor, Reader/Senior Lecturer, Lecturer in Psychology

Professorial: Competitive
Reader/Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor): £47,801 to £55,389
Lecturer (Assistant Professor): £38,896 to £46,414

The Department of Psychology at the University of Bath is on a path of significant expansion. In the final phase of this process, posts are now available at Professorial, Reader/Senior Lecturer and Lecturer levels. A key focus of these appointments is to expand the capacity of the Department within the area of cognitive-affective psychology – with research interests complementary to the interface between cognition and emotion. However, applications in other areas will be considered. For applications in the area of cognitive-affective psychology, methodological expertise in cognitive neuroscience such as EEG/ERP techniques would be welcomed.

We anticipate two appointments at professorial level, one of which may be expected to become the next Head of Department. This position will be furnished with a dedicated post at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader level to support the research activity of the successful applicant. Applications for Chairs are welcomed from established Professors, as well as Readers who can demonstrate a significant upward trajectory. Chairs are expected to be internationally leading in their field of expertise. All applicants are expected to have an excellent track record of publications, research grant acquisition, and teaching experience, commensurate to their stage of career.

The Department has an established tradition of ‘theoretically informed applied psychology’ and we are seeking applicants with demonstrable research impact. In the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, staff were returned in different units of assessment, the largest of which (Allied Health Professions) obtained the highest REF2014 rating for the University of Bath. The University was ranked 12thin the UK in REF2014. The Department obtained the second position in the country in The Complete University Guide, The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016. More information about the Department can be found at http://www.bath.ac.uk/psychology/.

As part of the expansion, from April 2016 the Department will occupy a new purpose-built five storey building, containing two floors of laboratories, including state-of-the-art EEG/ERP, observation, psychobiology, cross-modal and computerised testing labs.

The University of Bath is situated in the World Heritage City of Bath and is part of the GW4 group of leading Universities (with Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter). Bath is 15 minutes from Bristol by train and 90 minutes from London and Oxford.

As part of the application process, candidates will be asked to state which post they wish to be considered for (Professor, Reader/Senior Lecturer or Lecturer).

Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor Bas Verplanken (Head of Department); email: b.verplanken@bath.ac.uk; phone: +44 (0)1225 384906, or Dr Mark Brosnan (Director of Research); email: m.j.brosnan@bath.ac.uk; phone: +44 (0)1225 386081).

For Professorial positions:
Presentations: Monday 7 March 2016.
Interview date: Tuesday 8 March 2016.

For Reader/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer positions: interview date to be confirmed once Professorial interviews have taken place

The University of Bath has a bronze award from the Athena SWAN Charter Scheme. Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment.
