JOB DESCRIPTION


CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)


The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) is seeking to recruit a new Chief Executive. The CEO will work with the existing staff to lead and direct all aspects of the day to day business of the organisation, including personnel and finance.


Purpose



  • The Chief Executive will be responsible for leading and directing all aspects of the day-to-day business of the FIGO.




  • The Chief Executive will ensure that the Federation will be efficiently organised to achieve its aims.




  • The Chief Executive will co-ordinate the activities of FIGO and will ensure the sound recruitment and retention of high quality staff and promote their ongoing development in line with FIGO objectives.




  • The Chief Executive will be required to interact with the President, the Officers and the Executive Board members.




  • The Chief Executive will need an understanding of the International nature of FIGO.




  • The Chief Executive is accountable for developing and delivering the annual plan.




  • The Chief Executive is accountable to the President, the Officers and the Executive Board members of FIGO.



Main Accountabilities


The Chief Executive will:


• Develop, along with the president and Officers, strategies, policies and plans for consideration by Executive.


• Ensure that effective and efficient systems and processes are in place in order that FIGO achieves its strategic aims and objectives.


• Ensure that the FIGO maintains the highest standards in all its activities.


• Develop and strengthen FIGO’s international networks with diversified stakeholders among all the relevant constituencies.


• Ensure that FIGO’s business plans are supported by strong professional management and effective operating systems.


• Ensure that any project leader is working effectively to meet clear objectives and is continually striving to improve his/her performance.


• Keep under review and improve the monitoring of the FIGO performance against agreed objectives including financial performance and the use and development of FIGO physical and human resources.


• Develop and implement new national and international awareness and mobilization campaigns on women’s health relevant areas.


• Maintain excellent relations with recognized social and professional groups and ensure that FIGO maintains a positive image with all opinion formers in respect of its plans and policies.


The successful candidate will:



  • Have an advanced degree (MD or non MD) in business, administration, law or management




  • Be multilingual (apart from English, another language is desirable)




  • Have prior experience in strategic planning and development, personnel management and budget preparation




  • Have a background in coordinating NGO or Foundation activities, especially in the fund raising, promotion of activities, project applications and implementation and in coordinating administrative personnel with extensive experience of working with the World Health Organization and the UN System and Governments both in developed and developing countries.




  • Be proactive, dynamic and with an extended and solid international network among institutions and other stakeholders in the sector of International Cooperation




  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of the management (both operational and financial) of international organizations and of global projects (multi-donors).




  • Have higher qualification in business administration, management, accountancy or company secretarial



Previous Experience:



  • Experience of strategic planning and development




  • Experience of international networking, advocacy and policy-change




  • Experience of personnel management




  • Experience of budgetary management

  • Commitment to developing services and staff



Other Requirements:


Candidates must be of the highest calibre with successful record of leadership, experience in building and maintaining a highly effective team, and good track record of managing sizeable and complex organizations at a senior management level. This significant general management experience will include strategic development and budgetary responsibility. The capacity to lead change is key, especially as the FIGO enters a new phase of development and modernisation.


This will be a full-time position. The initial contract will be for a fixed term of three years, (renewable). The successful candidate must live in, or be prepared to move to, the UK. The salary will be commensurate with experience. FIGO staff members are currently eligible to join a contributory pension scheme once they have satisfactorily completed a probationary period. FIGO staff are now subject to auto enrolment. The role will be based in FIGO’s Central London headquarters.
