This is a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about sports and wants to get into education. The role is at an outstanding school in South West London and is a year-long job (or permanent for the right candidate) starting in September.
It is a diverse school with pupils from many different cultures. There are a wealth of different first languages spoken at the school. The pupils are very high achieving and the results are consistently good. The school is proud to be an inclusive school; the staff tailor all the lessons to reach the high achievers and the slower learners. There is a no tolerance approach to bullying and incidents are taken seriously. Behaviour in the school is well maintained with the behaviour policy in place. The children at the school are inquisitive and full of energy.
The role will be to assist the PE Teacher and work within the PE department. This will mean helping to coach the children in different sports classes (Football, rounders, swimming, dance, netball, circuits, basketball, athletics, gymnastics, hockey, cricket and rugby). You will be assisting the Teacher in the planning and preparation of activities. There are regular matches and competitions where you will be going and co-ordinating with the PE Teacher to supervise the children. There are some afterschool clubs which you can stay later to help with (3.30pm-6pm) and if you choose to do this you can earn overtime for the extra-hours. The school year will end with the sports day and then the end of year party which you will be part of a team of organisers.
The ideal candidate will have plenty of sports related experience (Coaching, team captain, player on a sports team, sports hobbies etc.). You will have experience with a wide range of sports (Holding coaching qualification in a variety of sports is a very strong advantage). Health and safety awareness with regards to sport and children is important. The school will assess your interest and overall sporting ability at interview. You will need to have excellent literacy, numeracy, communication, planning and organisational skills (It is not necessary to have a degree although this would be an advantage).
