Sport Psychology and Coaching Research Assistant (Anti-doping Education Programmes among High-Level Adolescent Athletes)


The Department of Sport, Health and Exercise Science is a thriving academic community that strives for excellence in its teaching and learning, research, and community engagement work. The Department has experienced considerable growth and investment in recent years and has outstanding teaching and research facilities. The Department seeks to appoint a sports psychology and coaching Research Assistant for a 30-month post to join its staff postgraduate team and project collaborators.


The post-holder will provide high-quality research support for a defined research project on anti-doping education intervention among adolescent athletes and their entourage, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee. The post-holder will have a good academic background in sport psychology, or psychological research, with knowledge of research design and statistical evaluation. Previous experience of being involved in psychological and/or educational interventions, especially related to anti-doping strategies would be advantageous. Likewise, experience in the use and application of Smartphone technology to research settings would be potentially useful too, although not essential. In addition to being responsible for coordination on this anti-doping education project, you will undertake scientific report writing / presentations to a high-standard. You will use your strong interpersonal skills to recruit participants successfully to the research project, coordinate and assist with the delivery of education programmes and undertake data collection. You may also contribute to wider departmental administrative/ engagement duties to broaden your academic experience and engage in appropriate training to further develop your research skills.


You should possess a first class BSc (Hons) and/or Masters degree in the area of Sport and Exercise Science or psychology (or related disciplinary area), and have some prior experience in sporting educational or anti-doping research. You are also expected to have some prior experience conducting independent research as demonstrated through an excellent undergraduate or Masters thesis. You will be a self-starter and a team player who is strongly committed to undertaking high quality research. Experience of the applied practice of sport and exercise psychology, attainment of PhD degree (or working towards PhD completion) is desirable. We are especially keen to hear from you if you are an Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (Research, or Scientific Support) and with an emerging track record of conference presentations and/or scientific publications in a relevant discipline. You will have a passion to engage in high-quality research and a desire to contribute to the Department’s research agenda and engagement work.
