This is a part-time post (6 months Full Time and then reducing to 2.5 days per week – but we can be flexible) on a fixed-term contract ending on 30th November 2017.

Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow to join an established multi-disciplinary team of researchers within the Neuro-rehabilitation research group. You will be working on the clinical research components of the Low-cost personalised instrumented clothing with integrated Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) electrodes for upper limb rehabilitation project. The project will develop new technology to improve arm recovery following stroke.


The job involves working in a highly integrated multidisciplinary team that includes neurological rehabilitation and motor control researchers, engineers (from the University of Southampton), therapists and two neurologists from two NHS Trusts, and two partner organisations (a commercial partner, Odstock Medical Limited, specialising in FES devices and the Stroke Association). You will be working closely with an engineering Research Fellow, and conducting experiments in the movement laboratories in Southampton.


You will have both qualitative and quantitative research skills in laboratory a environment, experience of user perspectives, and confidence in using technologies, data analysis and statistics.


You will have an opportunity for you to develop your academic career and gain a wide range of research experience; you will be supported by an experienced research team who are international leaders of this type of work.


The successful candidate will have experience of neuro-rehabilitation, ideally with physiotherapy, occupational therapy or psychology qualification. Experience in developing and evaluating of rehabilitation technologies is also essential.


Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.


The post will require an enhanced DBS check.
