Role purpose


The primary function of this role will be to further develop and maintain the member support services component of the EISF as well as to support the EISF Executive Coordinator and the Researcher to enhance EISF’s information provision capabilities and coordination capacity.


Member support services include bi-annual forums, workshops, webinars, teleconferences and information sharing, as well as also maintenance of the website.


The role also includes an administration support function for EISF


Role context


The European Interagency Security Forum (EISF) is an independent platform for security managers from European humanitarian agencies operating overseas. EISF emerged in 2006 as an independent NGO network, facilitating collaboration and information exchange on humanitarian security-risk management at the strategic, systematic and policy level. Over the past 8 years, the Forum has established itself as a reference point for applied practice, collective knowledge and current challenges in security-risk management.


Recognising that humanitarian agencies need to develop expertise in security-risk management in order to deliver aid effectively in unpredictable operating environments, EISF’s vision is to become a global reference point for humanitarian agencies. The primary objective is to enhance the security of aid workers, by strengthening integrated security-risk management approaches, allowing increased and sustainable access to populations in need. In this way, good security-risk management should facilitate the improved impact of humanitarian assistance.


EISF works directly with a growing number (currently 80+) European humanitarian agencies, reaching 90,000 aid workers globally. The EISF Secretariat and Steering Group also engage and collaborate with a wide range of actors, including institutional donors, researchers, UN agencies and NGO platforms, in order to promote and enhance risk management in humanitarian assistance. EISF achieves its goals in part by maximising available resources and cooperating closely with a wide range of actors.


EISF is supported by its membership and is funded by the Swiss, US and UK governments. The Forum is not a registered organisation, but an independently-run entity, currently hosted by Christian Aid.

Key Responsibilities


  1. Project Management: EISF membership services are managed and EISF member events organised. Tasks include:

Organise the EISF bi-annual Security Management forums in Spring and Autumn.
Organise seminars, workshops, and webinars throughout the year.
Coordinate ad-hoc support to the EISF membership e.g. teleconferences and interest groups on specific topics and / or contexts.
Respond to EISF Member, Network and Public enquiries on membership, events, website services and other areas as required.
Develop, implement and maintain a database system for membership and other information for EISF Member organisations, including payment of fees, suitable consultants, etc.
Prepare regular progress reports for donors and members.



  1. Website Management: EISF website remains relevant and accessible by EISF members and the broader network. For example:
    Manage www.eisf.eu website with the service provider, including fault identification and repair and site upgrades.
    Manage the on-line content. This includes identifying and uploading relevant events, and managing links to external organisations and/or websites.
    Manage EISF’s social media presence.




  2. Support the Research Advisor in the production of papers and alerts




  3. Effective administrative support provided to the EISF team. For example:
    Assist with consultant and staff recruitment processes
    Monitor allocated areas of EISF budget and budget tracking system for all EISF expenditure
    Act as EISF focal point for computer software and hardware issues



Person Specification – Essential


Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant field or equivalent professional experience plus relevant work experience.
Experience of organising events.
IT-literate, able to grasp website content management systems and manage social media activities.
Strong communications skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to tailor communications to different audiences with a proven ability to build relationships from a distance with a wide range of stakeholders
Good project management and proposal writing skills (including financial/budget planning) and experience of working within budget constraints
Self-starter and innovative thinker, able to work on own initiative and manage a complex workload
Sound knowledge of humanitarian issues and global contextual understanding
Familiarity with humanitarian security risk management related issues.
Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and relationship-building ability
Ability to handle confidential information.
Willingness to learn and to travel for a minimum of six weeks per year
Excellent written and spoken English

Working knowledge of other European languages.


Salary Bracket


£30,113 – £33,123
