United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Education Advisor – HST


We are looking for an experienced and committed individual to join us as Education Advisor and work to ensure children affected by emergencies enjoy access to quality basic education. You will also lead assessment, design, and implementation of high quality education response in large and complex crisis.

Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.


As Education Advisor you will directly contribute to humanitarian action through cluster coordination at country level and utilise this experience to inform policy development and improvement of knowledge management systems at the global level. In addition you will:


  • Undertake rapid emergency assessments in complex, large scale, emergency contexts

  • Lead on the development of a clear strategy for the overall education response in large scale emergencies, considering the immediate and longer term needs

  • Review training needs of staff, including Cluster staff and others involved in the functions of the cluster

  • Effectively represent the cluster within the humanitarian community

  • Ensure each aspect of the Performance Management Review process is undertaken and contributing to personal and professional learning and development.

To be successful you will have an advanced university degree in education or a related field or significant, demonstrated experience in education programmes in humanitarian contexts. You will also have international humanitarian experience gained in the education sector. In addition you will have:


  • Fluency in French or Arabic

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate working groups or coordination group members

  • Demonstrated experience of education assessments in a range of emergency contexts including rapid onset natural disasters and other complex emergencies

  • Proven experience of high quality report writing and documentation

  • Experience of designing and managing large education programmes in complex or challenging environments

  • Good understanding of Humanitarian reform and the Cluster system with some direct experience of cluster operations.
