The Role
The person will play a key role in the enhancement of the research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities within the Department. The portfolio of this role includes; contributing to the development and delivery of undergraduate and post graduate teaching and research in the area of Forensic Psychology or other related sub-disciplines of psychology and other cognate disciplines such as forensic psychiatry, supervising postgraduate research students; developing collaborative academic and organisational links to generate external income, contributing to the academic management of the Department.
The Person
The applicant will have
- a PhD or a Practitioner’s Doctorate in Forensic Psychology or other cognate disciplines;
- experience of teaching in the HE sector at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and/or experience of working in a forensic setting
- evidence of the ability to contribute to teaching in Forensic Psychology or other related areas such as mental health, forensic clinical or biological psychology
- a record of recent research outputs and peer reviewed publications commensurate to the stage of their career and evidence of recent research activities ability to communicate effectively with academic and non-academic audiences and experience of applying for external funding would be desirable.
The Department
Psychology at Kingston is a success story of growth firmly focused on enhancing the department’s research productivity and supporting excellence in research-informed teaching. Over the last 5 years, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) has invested extensively in Psychology, helping to almost double the number by Research Active Lecturers and increase laboratory space by nearly 60%. As an indicator of its developing research reputation, the department has obtained over a million pounds of external research funding in the last 5 years, with grants from the ESRC, Leverhulme Trust, the Qatar Foundation, EU, Nuffield Foundation, other charities and industry. In the recent REF 55% of research output was rated as 3* (internationally excellent) or 4* (world leading).Psychology benefits from increasingly close links with specialist clinics and hospitals within the London area and specialist research institutions abroad. The Department of Psychology at Kingston University is a very exciting department to work in, providing great opportunity for personal and professional development. Funds are available annually to support research and international conference attendance. Our culture promotes research excellence and research informed teaching at all levels, enabling vibrant applied research and teaching to take place. The Department will add to its portfolio of UG and PGT courses an MSc in Forensic Psychology and a BSc in Forensic Psychology. Both of these courses are due to receive their first in-take in September 2016 The Department of Psychology at Kingston University London provides a vibrant community for research and education in psychology. Psychology benefits from close links with criminologists, probation rehabilitation services, other government agencies and charities. The Department has facilities for research in social and health psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, and neuropsychology. Laboratory facilities include a behavioural suite linked to a separate digital monitoring facility for video/audio observational work and child psychology experiments, mobile and static eye tracking facilities, neuropsychological testing (via CANTAB), physiological recording (via Biopac), an EEG lab, transcranial DCS, a psychopharmacology laboratory, and a driving simulator. There is potential for further significant investment in infrastructure to support new research initiatives. State-of-the-art lecturing facilities allow for small and large group lecturing in interactive environments
