Refusing to ignore people in crisis
The Syria Crisis is now entering its 6th year and the level of need continues to rise. The Red Cross Movement is at the forefront of the humanitarian response inside Syria and the surrounding countries. The critical post of Syria and Lebanon Programme Officer sits in the Middle East and North Africa team and is responsible for the effective coordination and mobilisation of resources at BRC’s UK Office (UKO) to provide a high level of support to the Syria and Lebanon programmes. The purpose of this post is to ensure that the Syria and Lebanon Country Manager is effectively resourced from UKO in delivering the country strategy.
The MENA team sits within the Programmes and Partnerships division which provides single oversight of our programme work and our long-term capacity building partnerships and disaster management. The department will work in partnership not only externally with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the IFRC and ICRC, but also internally within a matrix relationship of technical advisers and policy professionals in other teams.
The successful candidate will have:
- Excellent practical programme management skills
- Excellent relationship and communication skills with key stakeholders
- Strong remote relationship building and management skills, to facilitate engagement and information flow between the field and UKO-based teams
- Ability to work dynamically to solve problems
This is an excellent opportunity working together with the field team as well as the wider division to help ensure the effective delivery of BRCs programme work in the region.
