About Hillingdon
Hillingdon Council: Putting our residents first.

About Hillingdon Libraries
Hillingdon Library Service has seen an increase in visits, new members and borrowing since refurbishing or rebuilding all 17 of its buildings. Hillingdon Libraries are now open longer and offer first-rate facilities, events and activities.

Hillingdon Council is the only local authority in the country to refurbish or rebuild all of its libraries. Hillingdon Council received the Library Innovation of the Year award at the 2011 Bookseller Industry Awards. In 2014, two libraries were short-listed for the London Regional Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.

About the job

The location is Ruislip Manor and Eastcote libraries. Please see attachment for working hours.

The salary will be pro-rata.

The core purpose of this role is to provide excellent customer service to our thousands of visitors, to encourage the use of the library and promote reading for pleasure in a fast-paced environment.

The role of Library Assistant is varied. You will undertake a range of duties under the direction of the Branch Manager, responding to customer demand and always supporting your fellow team members. You will be expected to be able to ensure the efficient operation of the front line service in the absence of a manager.

As well as offering assistance on public computers, you will be asked to promote books, reading and on-line resources, create displays, answer enquiries and contribute your energy and ideas to making Hillingdon library service the best in London.

About the person
You are a positive and enthusiastic person, confident working in a customer orientated service. To meet the demands of the service, you will have to balance competing demands whilst always ensuring our diverse community feels enriched by each visit to the library.

You are a skilled communicator and can adapt your style to ensure your colleagues and the public receive clear, accurate information. You are organised and efficient, able to follow procedures and be flexible with both your time and your thinking to solve problems.
