Lecturer in Psychology


Salary £32,600 to £37,768 per annum (dependent on experience), USS pension available. The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the minimum of the agreed scale with annual increments on 1 October each year (subject to completing six months service). This is a permanent position with start date as soon as is convenient to the successful applicant. The salary will be on the Grade 8 salary scale for Lecturers together with USS benefits

As a result of greatly increased student numbers and a very successful REF2014 outcome the College of Human and Health Sciences is seeking to expand its research and teaching strengths in the Department of Psychology through the appointment of a Lecturer who is required to develop internationally recognised research publications and make a significant contribution to the psychology submission (UoA4) in Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2020. The successful candidate will be expected to expand their own research activities and be capable of linking with current research in the Department, in the College of Human and Health Sciences, the College of Medicine, and other Universities internationally.


The Department of Psychology has a flourishing research community with particular research strengths in cognition, neuroscience and clinical psychology. In REF 2014 Psychology at Swansea was rated as having 44% world-leading research (4*) and was ranked 1st equal in the UK psychology for research impact (100% world-leading (4*)). The Department has considerable laboratory space and access to equipment for many areas of the discipline, including shielded EEG and fMRI, and NIRS (Near InfraRed Spectroscopy), further details are below.


The appointment will be on the Teaching and Research Academic Career Pathway. They will need to develop their own portfolio of funded projects, as well as forming fruitful interactions and collaborations locally, nationally and internationally. The appointee will seek to operate at an international level and publish research in respected journals.


The post requires the teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Psychology, and across the College where required.


The successful applicant will be expected to undertake administration, in areas such as module leadership, student recruitment, internationalisation, employability or enhancing the student experience.
